We got to take Chelsey to the mall for a couple of hours today, and she did very well. That was the first time she had been outside since 7/3. She shouted in surprise at how weird it felt as we walked out the hospital exit. At the mall, she had pizza at the food court, and we window shopped before heading back to the hospital. She was a little bit la-la, but the whole excursion felt very close to normal with the old Chelsey. It felt wonderful! If she continues like that, we expect discharge early next week.
Beth also met today with a case worker helping us line up support services for after Chelsey comes home. That meeting went extremely well. There are still many unknowns, but in-home support, respite care, a day program, and a job coach are all under consideration with a realistic shot at getting approval.
