8/11 - Group Home Mostly Approved

We’re ecstatic that we got one of the two signatures needed to approve a group home for Chelsey, and the second is expected early next week! Woohoo! Beth has been the relentless driving force to make it happen, and she has had a wonderful ally in Wendy, a DDA service coordinator. Wendy has gone beyond the call of duty in shepherding the process around obstacles like bigwig vacations. She seems genuinely committed to great care for Chelsey and kindness to us along the way.

The next step after approval is actual placement, and they’re already working on it. They assure us it will happen before our school starts on 8/20. They expect it to happen earlier than that, possibly by the middle of the coming week.

We face this next transition with a mix of anxiety and excitement. We’ll all be thrilled to end the hotel stay, that’s for sure, but we do not yet know the quality of care, environment, or even location of the home. Chelsey says a group home is her first choice and is looking forward to it.
